Archaic Indians Facts
10,000 years ago to 3,500 years ago we date the Archaic Indians. They were hunters and gatherers. They ate freshwater mussels, fish, and plant foods in their diet. Archaic people went together to hunt and get food. It is belived that the Archaic Indians lived on the rivers during the summer months so they could harvest food from the river. Also, Archaic people relocated to forests to get nuts and they hunted in the fall and winter. Native Americans that lived in Alabama started to practice horticulture at the end of the Archaic period. They made many tools to make their life easier. Archaic people didn't have bows and arrows yet they used a throwing stick or atlatl to hunt. Archaeoligists also belived the Archaic Indians traded with their neighbors for special items they could not make.
